I grew up around sports. I wouldn’t call myself a tomboy, but I am certainly not a prissy girl either. But, watching the intensity of exhibition softball is making me feel like putting on a ruffled dress and curling my hair.
My Bug is working her little tail off! I am certainly one proud Moma as I sit here typing this out before the start of her second game of the day. I know she is overwhelmed by the skill levels these girls are bringing to the field.
So, I decided I would start sharing our experiences moving to travel ball and include all of you as we see where this whole experience will take Bug…
Less than a week ago, she was invited to come practice with a travel ball team. To this point she has been playing Babe Ruth recreational league softball. Spring 2014 was her very first season putting on a glove or swinging a bat. We went out just for the fun of it. It was an opportunity to give her a social outlet and get some physical activity.
Within one bucket of balls, my husband saw the incredible gift Bug possessed for hitting the ball. But we had lots of work to do! A year and a half later, she stepped out on the field 5 days ago just to see if she could keep up. By the end of practice, she had been invited to join the team!
We were all beyond thrilled! We knew that this would mean incredible opportunities for her future. This would also mean crazy schedules and many tournaments that I would be unable to attend because of work. I have never missed a game and am struggling with the idea of this!
So, her invitation was on Sunday. Monday, she had rec ball practice. Tuesday was batting practice for travel ball. Wednesday was regular practice for travel ball. Thursday was game for rec ball. Friday morning (this morning) we got up at 4 am to drive 4 hours to her first tournament. Needless to say, this has been a complete whirlwind!
I will try to relay the recruiting process as I see it tomorrow. It is definitely a post unto itself!
