There are several adventures that we are going on this coming year. Only 2 are actual travel journeys. The rest are adventures to better ourselves and/or change our lives.
After Thanksgiving, I started a journey to take back my health. This has been a long time coming. I have struggled with my weight for most of my life. As a teenager, I became obsessed when I gained a few pounds my junior year of high school. I lost an unhealthy amount of weight and found myself in a lifestyle that was unsustainable. Freshman 15 became the Freshman 30 when I went off to college. I was amazed at how quickly and easily I gained weight, regardless of how much I worked out or how many meals I skipped.
Since then I have ridden the pendulum back and forth… gain weight, diet, lose weight, stop dieting, gain all weight back plus more. I became so frustrated that I stopped trying to diet. For a while I plateaued and maintained a fairly steady weight, but it was at a weight that was considered obese for my height. When I recently had a hard time catching my breath from fairly easy tasks, I decided it was time to change my whole outlook on the situation.
I am no longer dieting. I have changed my mindset. It is no longer about depriving myself of foods that I want or starving myself as punishment for eating something I know I shouldn’t. I have started on a journey to looking at food as fuel for my body and developing habits that keep me on track to better health and fuller life.
I am down 10lbs. at the end of 4 weeks on my journey so far. I plan on making this change a forever thing. My goal is still a long ways away, but I am starting to see that this is manageable in little steps.
The other major vision for 2019 is taking control of our finances. God has always provided in some way, but we want better control of where the money is spent and how we use the money that is left after the bills are paid. We have decided to start the Dave Ramsey method using Financial Peace University after we return from Israel. 2019 is the year to do and learn how to move forward.
We am excited about where these changes will take us and what it all means!
