Sunday, February 21, 2021 was a lazy Sunday at home. We were watching YouTube kayaking and RV’ing videos (one of my favorite lazy day activities – living vicariously through others!) We had plans for all the kayaking trips and camping we would be doing in the near future. Suddenly, I didn’t feel well. I’m not sure if it was because of the woman ranting about her RV renovation or something else, but I felt hot, dizzy, and heart racing. I turned off the TV and told my husband I wasn’t feeling well. Next thing I remember was waking up in his lap while he spoke with a 911 dispatcher. Paramedics arrived and took me to the ER. The hospital ran a gamut of tests (ekg, bloodwork, chest x-ray, urinalysis, etc.) The phlebotomist looked at the tray with my pregnancy test and told the nurse to “take a look at that.” As soon as they left the room, I got up and looked at the test. 2 lines. I’m pregnant? No… can’t be. The Nurse Practitioner came in our room, pulled the curtain, and said “Congratulations!” I broke down in tears. Jared asked if they had the right room. We both were floored by God’s amazing sense of humor and incredible Grace!
I’ve been told by 3 different doctors that I would never have children. You may already be aware that I was blessed with becoming an “othermother” or step-mom to the most amazing daughter. Hailey came into my life when she was 8 years old. She brought so much joy and fulfilled my desires to become a mom. But, she’s grown now and moved out of the house. I still find it hard to believe that she’s 21 years old! Where did the years go?
Hailey is so excited about becoming a big sister. I’m so relieved! I was worried that she would feel weird about our age and the fact that some of her friends are having babies at this point. This amazing gift from God seems to have renewed her faith in His grace!
With my age, this pregnancy will be risky. I’m a geriatric pregnancy. But, I know God is in control and His will be done!
